At the south end of the island, where Pope Avenue runs into another of Hilton Head Island’s "famous” traffic circles, you’ll find the Forest Beach area, which consists of North Forest Beach to the left of the circle, and South Forest Beach to the right. Visitors staying in North Forest Beach Rental or South Forest Beach vacation rentals can leave the car at home – it’s only a short walk to attractions such as Coligny Beach Park at the south side of the Coligny circle, which is an access point to the beach featuring outdoor showers, changing rooms, restrooms, and gazebos with swings and chairs where people can rest their feet and enjoy some people watching.
Smack dab in the middle you’ll find some of Hilton Head Island’s biggest attractions: The Tiki Hut on Coligny Beach, Coligny Beach Park, and Coligny Plaza. If you’re not in the mood for sand between your toes, Coligny Plaza is located right across the street. Coligny Plaza has been "Hilton Head’s Downtown” since 1995. All shops are beach-attire friendly, and you can find anything and everything under the sun to buy, eat or drink. You can even catch a movie at the Coligny Plaza Theater if you want a break from the heat.
If you want to take a scenic drive to visit another iconic part of the island, the south gate to the Sea Pines Resort is located at the other end of South Forest Beach Drive. It’s a winding route to Harbour Town to see the famous red and white lighthouse, which houses a museum and boasts a stunning view of the Harbour Town Yacht Basin. Nearby is the South Beach Marina where you can book a cruise around the Calibogue Sound on the Salty Dog, a 63’ powered catamaran with upper and lower decks, or dine waterside at the Salty Dog Café.
