Updated 2026!

Planning a Hilton Head Fourth of July trip usually starts with one question: where can we stay that puts us close to the fireworks, beach days, and family activities without spending the entire vacation sitting in traffic?

That’s part of why so many families return to Hilton Head Island this time of year. You can spend the morning at the beach, ride bikes to lunch, take the grandkids to HarbourFest for live music and Cappy the Clown, then end the night watching fireworks over Broad Creek at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina. With America250 celebrations also happening across Beaufort County throughout 2026, this year’s Fourth of July events bring even more to the island than usual.

Here's everything you need to plan your holiday weekend on the island.

America250: A Once-in-a-Generation Celebration

This year's Fourth of July carries extra weight. July 4, 2026, marks the 250th anniversary of American independence — and the America250 commemoration is the largest national birthday celebration in U.S. history.

Hilton Head Island and the broader Lowcountry are leaning into this milestone with programming that stretches well beyond the holiday itself. If you're visiting for the Fourth of July weekend or beyond, consider building some of these America250 experiences into your trip:

  • Bi-Weekly Historic Site Tours
  • Naval Warfare & Battle of Bloody Point Boat Tour
  • "Celebrate America" Concert from the Hilton Head Choral Society
  • Beaufort District Revolutionary War Bus Tour
  • Donuts with Benjamin Franklin

On the 250th anniversary of independence, Hilton Head Island is one of the best places in the country to feel the full weight of what July 4th actually means, and we can't wait to celebrate with you!

Shelter Cove Harborfest

If you’re looking for the center of the action on the Fourth of July in Hilton Head, this is usually it.

Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina hosts HarbourFest throughout the summer, but the Independence Day celebration is one of the biggest nights of the season. Families gather around Broad Creek for live music, waterfront dining, kids' activities, and fireworks after dark.

Shannon Tanner performs during the evening festivities, and younger kids usually make a beeline for Cappy the Clown before the fireworks show begins. So come early and don't miss a second of the action.

Harbour Town Fourth of July Parade

Starts at 8:30 AM | Harbour Town, Sea Pines Resort

Nothing beats a small town parade and that's exactly what you get here on Hilton Head. You'll see decorated wagons, bagpipe players, and everyone from kids to pups decked out in red, white, and blue as the party makes its way through Harbour Town. This year, is special, too, with Woody the Clydesdale leading the way. The parade starts at 9:30 AM and spots along the route will fill up, so grab coffee in your vacation rental and then make your way to town.

Fourth of July Carnival at Harbour Town

10:00 AM – 11:30 AM | Harbour Town Lawn, Sea Pines Resort

Immediately following the parade, the lawn at Harbour Town transforms into a full-on Fourth of July Carnival. Kids and adults can enjoy carnival games, a bounce house, inflatable axe-throwing, face painting, tie-dye, and a juggler and bubble show. DJ Alan spins festive tunes and MCs the crowd-favorite Watermelon Eating Contest under the Liberty Oak. Woody the Clydesdale also sticks around for a meet-and-greet photo opportunity. Keep an eye out for a mystery special guest.

Salute from the Shore

1:00 PM | Along the Hilton Head Coastline

At 1 PM, look up. F-16 Fighting Falcons from Shaw Air Force Base will make their way down the South Carolina coastline, beginning at Cherry Grove in North Myrtle Beach and ending in the Beaufort/Bluffton area of the Lowcountry. Following the active armed forces aircraft is an all-volunteer Warbird brigade: civilian-owned and flown vintage planes, including T-34s, T-6s, and T-28s. Hit the beach with a blanket, point the kids skyward, and get ready to go nuts when they buzz by the shore.

Hilton Head Firecracker 5K

For the early risers and fitness-minded members of the group, the Hilton Head Firecracker 5K at Jarvis Creek is a popular 4th of July tradition in Beaufort County. As the oldest and largest race on the island, it's a great way to earn your cookout calories and kick off the holiday on a high note.

Registration is open now and costs $35 for adults and $20 for kids 12 and under. The race begins at 8:10 AM on July 4th.

Gregg Russell Under the Liberty Oak

8:00 PM – 9:00 PM | Liberty Oak Tree, Harbour Town (147 Lighthouse Road)

End the day the way Hilton Head families have done for decades. Gregg Russell — a Sea Pines institution — takes the stage under the iconic Liberty Oak in Harbour Town for his Fourth of July concert. Gregg has built a following that spans generations, and his shows are the kind that grandparents and grandkids love to experience together. Bring a blanket, grab a spot on the lawn near the Harbour Town Lighthouse, and let this beloved tradition sing you all the way to the fireworks display. It's the perfect way to round out your Independence Day.
