See Some of the World's Best Golfers at the RBC Heritage Golf Tournament

The Hilton Head RBC Heritage Golf Tournament draws golfers and fans of the sport from all around the world to play on a premier course in one of the most beautiful cities on the East Coast. While the green will be the focus of the weekend, don’t miss out on what the rest of the beachfront area has to offer during your stay for the RBC Heritage 2016.

History of the Hilton Head RBC Heritage

The Heritage PGA Tour event has been held in Hilton Head, SC, since its inception in 1969. The coastal town hosts the fame Harbour Town Golf Links at the Sea Pines Resort, which has been listed on many best courses lists throughout the years. The golf course was designed by Pete Dye with help from Jack Nicklaus, who won the tournament in 1975. The first golfer to win was famed Arnold Palmer, who took the trophy with a -1. Since then, Brian Gay claimed the record of -20 to win the tournament in 2009.

The tournament has changed titles throughout the years, shifting to the Hilton Head RBC Heritage in 2012 when the Royal Bank of Canada took over sponsorship. It is also one of only five tournaments given invitational status by the PGA Tour, which means that there are only 132 players instead of the typical 156 players. An exclusive field, the beautiful weather of Hilton Head, and a top-notch course with world-class golfers are all features of this historic tournament.

Other Hilton Head Activities

Though you will be spending most of your time on the Hilton Head RBC Heritage golf course, you will have some free time to explore the area. There are many bike trails around the island, and bicycle rentals are readily available. This is a great way to sightsee and get some exercise in the process. Boat tours are also a great way to see the island from a new perspective. Some good old-fashioned hiking is also a great activity, particularly in the Sea Pines Forest Preserve, which features some awe-inspiring scenes and wildlife. Laying out by the beach is another great activity, and those ocean breezes will be nice if you’ve been caught in a sea of people during the tournament event. Of course, you can always set a date at another local golf course and spend your whole time emerged in the sport you love!

Where to Stay

While viewing some of your favorite golfers take a swing on the green, you don’t want to be worrying about fighting the crowds at the Sea Pines Resort. Which is why booking a Beachside Getaway is a great option for a week or weekend getaway. You can gather together a group of friends and pitch in for a vacation rental, most of which even have a backyard space for you to practice your putting. This is also a great decision for families that want to have a more private space away from the hustle and bustle of the Hilton Head RBC Heritage. Whoever you’ll be attending the tournament with, be sure to book your Hilton Head rental with Beachside Getaway for a great golf getaway!
