Mitchelville Freedom Park
Fish Haul Creek Park is the home to the historic Mitchelville site. This is the exact place where Union General Ormsby Mitchel declared that Mitchelville, South Carolina was officially free. This area of the park recreates parts of the original town that once stood here along with exhibits, lectures, forums, tours, and cultural programs. You will also find a pavilion with photographs and markers that illustrate the rise of the self-governed settlement for freedmen after the war.
